in partnership with chicago state university, the chicago state foundation will host a live broadcast of the inaugural 1stgen scholarship gala presented by greeley and hansen on the evening of friday, october 2, 2020. chicago state university has created an intentional campus community that provides a suite of wraparound cognitive and non-cognitive supports designed to propel the success of first-generation students from diverse populations. more than 60% of csu scholars are the first in their families to attend college, and 80% are black or latinx. the greatest roadblock to first-gen college success isn’t the lack of talent, or desire, but the lack of financial resources. dollars raised from the gala will be used to help remove that barrier, through the creation of the csu 1stgen scholarship fund.
in addition to celebrating the student scholars who will be the beneficiaries of 1stgen scholarships, special highlights of the gala program will include the presentation of cougar servant leadership awards to former illinois senate president, and long-time csu champion, emil jones, jr., chicago public schools ceo and csu alumna, dr. janice jackson, and longtime education and arts advocate, and bronzeville children’s museum founder, peggy montes.
on behalf of the leadership of chicago state university and chicago state foundation, Gala Chair John C. Robak, Honorary Co-Chairs Andy Zopp & Bill Zopp, and Angelique David & Jerry Richmond, we invite you to join us for this incredible broadcast celebration.
